The challenge
As a large provincial secondary school with over 2,000 students, Deebukphangngawittayayon School historically tracked morning flag-raising assembly attendance and disciplinary conduct on paper charts. Room leaders ran physical logbooks across campus every morning, creating administrative bottlenecks, data loss risks, and end-of-term delays compiling official conduct scores and parent warning letters.
The solution
INTECH collaborated with school administrators to engineer DEEBUK-SA (Student Affairs). Homeroom advisors complete morning attendance on their mobile phones in under a minute via an intuitive low-friction interface. The platform automates provincial student tallying, digitizes conduct demerit and merit points under official school bylaws, and issues proactive early warnings for students with persistent attendance anomalies.
Scope of work
- Morning flag-raising assembly attendance logging (Present, Absent, Tardy, Sick Leave, Personal Leave, Activity)
- Period-by-period classroom attendance module mapped directly to teacher course schedules
- Student conduct governance system recording disciplinary demerit points and community service merits
- Longitudinal individual student behavioral history tracking throughout the academic year
- At-risk student early warning system flagging consecutive absences or critical conduct thresholds
- Automated parent notification letter generator compiling attendance logs and infraction histories
- Real-time school-wide attendance and behavioral dashboard for student affairs executives and principals
Behind the build
Institutional Context at Deebukphangngawittayayon School
Deebukphangngawittayayon School is the flagship provincial secondary school in Phang Nga Province, educating more than 2,000 students across Grades 7 through 12 (Matthayom 1 to 6). Managing campus discipline, safety, and daily student welfare at this scale requires rapid, reliable operational workflows.
Every morning, the school conducts its traditional flag-raising assembly and homeroom check-in, occupying a tight 15- to 20-minute window before the first academic period begins. Historically, homeroom teachers marked paper attendance rosters. Class leaders then physically carried notebooks to the Student Affairs office, where administrative staff manually summed numbers on calculators to present daily headcounts to the principal. This workflow was labor-intensive, error-prone, and provided zero visibility once weather disruptions occurred.
Concurrently, recording student disciplinary infractions—such as tardiness, uniform violations, or truancy—relied on paper slips submitted by duty teachers. These notes accumulated in physical binders and were only tallied toward the close of the academic semester. As a result, students and parents were blind to accumulating demerit deductions until it was too late to complete restorative community service hours or prevent academic disqualification.
Designing DEEBUK-SA: Field Velocity & Restorative Governance
DEEBUK-SA was engineered specifically around the operational realities of active teachers managing energetic students outdoors:
- Low-Friction Mobile Attendance: Recognizing that teachers stand on school assembly grounds without desk access, the interface defaults all enrolled students to “Present.” Teachers simply tap the few individuals who are absent, tardy, or on medical leave. Completing an entire homeroom of 40 students takes less than 60 seconds.
- Instant School-Wide Attendance Rollup: The moment teachers submit rosters, the Student Affairs central console aggregates attendance numbers across all six grade levels in real time. Campus security and duty supervisors immediately identify missing students before morning lectures commence.
- Fair and Transparent Conduct Score Ledger: Students start each academic term with 100 baseline conduct points. When disciplinary infractions occur, teachers select from predefined, standardized school regulations. Every entry records the reporting faculty member, exact timestamp, and rationale. Conversely, when students complete school service or exhibit leadership, teachers award restorative merit points.
- At-Risk Early Warning Engine: If a student accumulates three consecutive unexcused absences or their conduct score drops near critical disciplinary thresholds (e.g., below 60 points), the system triggers immediate alerts to homeroom advisors and grade-level coordinators, generating formalized parent notification documents with one click.
Engineering Standards & Clean Architecture (PHP, MySQL & Bootstrap)
DEEBUK-SA was designed according to Clean Architecture principles to ensure continuous reliability on institutional hosting infrastructure:
1. Backend Service: PHP & MySQL Clean Architecture
- MVC Modular Structure: Clear separation between Data Access Objects (Models), business verification rules (Controllers), and Semantic HTML templates (Views), ensuring straightforward adaptation as ministerial school bylaws evolve.
- Database Immunity via PDO: All database queries execute strictly through parameterized PDO prepared statements, ensuring total resilience against SQL injection vectors.
- Credential Governance & RBAC: Secure authentication uses 13-digit National Identification numbers and salted hashed passwords. Role-Based Access Control restricts homeroom teachers to their designated class cohorts, while Student Affairs executives retain full administrative oversight.
2. Frontend: Mobile-First Responsive Design
- Bootstrap & Tailored CSS: Built with a Mobile-First layout specifically tuned for outdoor handheld use in bright sunlight, featuring high-contrast interactive buttons and touch-friendly spacing.
- Pure JavaScript Interactivity: State toggles and student status updates operate smoothly on lightweight client devices without exhausting battery or hardware memory.
